Lana'i - Sweetheart Rock

Puu Pehe, (sweetheart rock) has a story. It is said that a warrior from Lanai fell in love with a beautiful lady and put her on this rock to hide her from all of the other men. She ended up drowning in storm waves so he climbed up a steep cliff to buried her and then jumped to his death.

Lana'i - Hulope Bay

This bay was UNBELIEVABLE!
It is pretty much the only spot on the island that you can actually swim. Everywhere else has a crazy undertow so it gets dangerous.
There is no coral at all straight out so the swimming is perfect! But on each of the sides of the bay, its a different story.
I have never ever seen such beautiful snorkeling.
I just couldn't get enough of these fish.
These pictures do not even come close at all to haw amazing it really was. My standards are way higher now.

Lana'i - Garden of the Gods

This place was amazing. Yes...its just a bunch of rock but being here had a feeling to it. It was so quiet and tranquil. Driving here there were no rocks in sight, all of a sudden there are hundreds and hundreds.
Weird!

Lana'i - Keomoku Village

Next, we drove down a long dirt road to a village called Keomoku.
Driving here we really didn't know what to expect.
First, this village was used to raise sugar but that didn't go so well. So a family started to used this as the base of there cattle and sheep ranch. Once again, it didn't go so well and they moved to town.

 Bread Oven
 Some sort of smoker
 Pieces of a boat...
 and the motor.
Church that obviously looks like it is being remodeled
 the offerings

Lana'i - Shipwreck Beach

Our first stop on lanai was Shipwreck Beach.

The dead tree. Skeleton's decorate this tree like ornaments.
This oil tanker was beached in the 1940's. It got stuck in the coral and was never pulled out.

Lana'i, Hawaii

I took a little one day trip to the tiny island of Lana'i.
All of these pictures are of the landscape as we drove.
We stopped at some really cool places but I am going to make a separate post for those.
 Honolulu
Diamond  Head
Lana'i is A Lot different...can you tell?
 One room airport
In the distance,  Molikai is straight ahead...Maui on the right
I know you can barley see it but this is the only town there is on the island.
Everyone lives here.
1 gas station (1 gallon = $5.85)
0 stop lights
Most of the streets are just numbers. ) one, two, three...ect.
Trees are stained red
Stay tuned for the things that we actually did.
Very cool!!!
