Random...

So we still have not had success finding a house yet. We either need $4,000 a month to live in a reasonably nice house close to base or $2,500 a month to live 45 min to a hour away. Houses in our price range (so hard to find that even allow pups) somewhat close to base allows 1 dog but not 2, or dogs under 20lbs. Just cant win. We have to be out of our hotel at the end of April because TLA runs out. (BAH is not enough) We could stay here longer but it is just sooo expensive for the dump we are living in. $170 a night adds up to ALOT a month! Mike had another TLA appointment this morning and they told him that we are now #4 on the list, but it could still take till the the end of May, or longer. So I spend my days, checking Craigslist, then AHRN, then Rent.com and then doing it all over again, and again. I just wish Mike wasn't leaving yet. I want him to be able to say yes or no to the house that we are going to live in for a year... if we ever find one.
Mike is actually at the dentist as I write. He was suppose to have a cleaning and a cavity fill today, then next week have all 4 of his wisdom teeth removed. They wanted to have him all done before he leaves but its not going to happen. The surgeon that does it is on leave so now he has to put it off even longer. He's needed if for years so another few months wont hurt.
We also got a email that my car has made it to the island. I'm so excited to have her back! His Jeep is sooo hard to drive so I don't like to drive it at all. The seat only goes up so far so I'm reaching for the clutch every time I shift, it never wants to downshift so its hard to slow down, and you have to pump the breaks to stop, definitely not use to that.  That's what you get when you buy a 82' I guess. He loves it tho so that's all that matters. He's going to love it even more once he can take the top off. We haven't had a place to put the hard top once we take it off, another reason why we need a house. We are going tomorrow to pick up my car and then I will be free... free to do whatever I need to do without waiting till 6:00pm for my husband to get home! Very exciting! But then I will need to get a safety check. (Hawaii makes every car do this) I already no that I will need to get my reverse lights fixed and hopefully they wont say anything about my windows being to dark. ( I'm not going to be a happy camper if they make me take them off) I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything else is up to standard.
Mike is probably going golfing this weekend. He has been talking about it ever sense we got here and he finally found a friend that likes to go too. Other then that, its up in the air for this weekend. Well, I have a few of things in mind but nothing set yet. I just love that every weekend there is something to do, let alone something different to do.

  1. I hope your able to find a house soon, the housing prices are so high there its insane. Good luck with the inspection on your car, I had to have my tint removed bc they said it was to dark, but its different for cars vs. jeep, truck & SUVs. Once you guys get settled in a house and in a routine things will start to feel more normal and like home!!!

    1. Thanks, I hope we find one too. I just want all my stuff back. My husband had to take his tint off his Jeep and it wasn't even that dark. I'm just going to take it to a sketchy place and hopefully they wont care. :)

  2. I was in the same boat as you in November! It's so hard finding a place here! I actually learned AHRN isn't the best way to find housing here. Check the newspaper and local apartment ads. Also if you wanna try living in Waikiki there is always an open house somewhere on sundays. I found our place in the Newspaper and we got super lucky with a furnished one bedroom, we're two blocks away from Waikiki beach and for only $1375. It takes a lot of calling around and appointment setting, so you have to be patient. Our landlord has another unit coming up I believe I don't mind giving her a call :). You'll have to commit for at least a year, but hey, that means you get to save some extra BAH. Just let me know!

  3. That's good advice! I haven't checked the papers yet. Ill definitely do that! From what I have found, everything in Waikiki is highrise apartments that don't allow dogs. I don't know how I feel about having a 85lb dog in a highrise even if they do allow them. A condo wouldn't be bad or a duplex I guess. I really like the $1375 tho!!! Do you know if your landlord is trying to rent a apartment or something else?

    1. Very true about the pets! I could give her a call and ask, but it will have to be tomorrow. Pick up a newspaper though for sure, it always has the good stuff. I'll get back to you on what she has to offer or if she knows any other owners that are renting out things at the moment.

  4. Good luck with finding a place! I've heard nothing but wonderful words about living out there once you're settled in. militarybyowner.com might help out too!

    1. Thanks... :) I hope the "perfect place" comes soon. I just want all my belongings back! I'm loving it out here already. Definitely going to be a 3 year vacation. Iv checked militarybyowner a few times. They have a really good list of homes for sale not really for rent... I wish we could buy, that would be amazing!

  5. It definitely sucked moving here... we managed to get out of our lease in town when the base house opened up because he had deployment orders (I believe TDY/TAD orders work as well) and we used the military clause to break the lease. We helped the landlords find new tenants by advertising and having the apartment "show ready" at all times.

If he is leaving and you will be alone, you should be put on the priority list. Seriously, make Forest City know you by name... go every day if you can, and if you can't call everyday. Be kind, but be persistent. You'd be amazed at the number of houses sitting empty.

  6. I had know idea about any of this. I asked Mike what he thought and he said that he doubts that we would get priority because its training and not deployment. I think I'm going to maybe do a little research my self and see what they say.

  7. Where do you want to live? You can find a lot of great places that are legit on Craigslist and in the newspaper. I lived in a 1 bedroom gated condo for $1400 and I loved living there. I remember seeing two bedroom condos for rent for around $2000/month. The condo is called Plaza Landmark. I also lived in a 2 bedroom townhouse in Aiea for $1550. Definitely look around and you'll find a nice place to live in your price range. =)

  8. Where are all of these places??? lol I am finding a lot of houses/duplexes in our price range and when I email them about allowing dogs to live there they say no. I am going to definitely check Plaza Landmark and see it they have anything available. Thanks for that! :)
